CLOUD MANUFACTURING
WHAT IS SMART TECHNOLOGY?
The term "smart technologies" refers to a range of gadgets, applications, and platforms that make use of artificial intelligence, internet access, and other modern technologies to improve and automate a variety of functions in a range of industries, including home automation, security, healthcare, and transportation. Smart cars, wearable technology, smart homes, smart cities, and smart healthcare gadgets are a few examples.
Smart technology can be divided into three different kinds:
- Internet of Things (IoT) Devices
A network of interconnected gadgets that use online connectivity, chips, software, sensors, analytics, and apps to infuse life into inanimate physical items. These automated, scalable, and futuristic devices generate significant value.
Smart homes, smart factories, and smart cities are a few well-known examples.
- Smart Connected Devices
Smart linked gadgets, which are Bluetooth-enabled and remote-controlled, can provide a personalized experience, but they must be controlled because they don't adapt as much as Internet of Things devices do.
Smart connected gadgets include things like cellphones, smart lightbulbs, and security cameras.
- Smart Devices
Some programmed, low-automation devices—like smart coffee makers—have no internet connectivity requirements and offer customized services at specific times.
WHAT IS CLOUD MANUFACTURING?
The act of storing, managing, and processing data via an Internet-hosted network of distant computers as opposed to a local server or a personal computer is known as "cloud computing."
Cloud manufacturing refers to running a manufacturing facility’s software systems and platforms on the cloud. The cloud refers to servers that are housed in a provider’s data center and allow other businesses and organizations to run and store their own software and databases on those servers. A company’s software and data are then accessible via the internet, and the company doesn’t have to have physical server equipment at its own physical facility.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF CLOUD MANUFACTURING?
- Environmental Sustainability: By reducing the requirement for physical infrastructure and the corresponding energy usage, cloud manufacturing can support environmental sustainability. Companies can reduce waste and their influence on the environment by optimizing the utilization of their resources.
- Scalability and Flexibility: It allows for easy scalability, enabling businesses to adapt quickly to changing demands. Whether a company needs to scale up or down, cloud manufacturing offers the flexibility to adjust resources accordingly.
- Enhanced Collaboration: Cloud platforms make it easier for teams, departments, or even individuals in various places to collaborate with one another. By enabling the real-time sharing of designs, data, and manufacturing schedules, it promotes improved teamwork and communication.
- Cost Efficiency: The demand for significant investments in physical infrastructure is decreased by cloud manufacturing. Companies just pay for the tools and services they really use, with on-demand access available. This minimizes the cost of updating and maintaining software and hardware.
- Improved Data Management and Analytics: Large data sets can be handled by the cloud, which also provides cutting-edge analytics and insights. To enhance manufacturing operations, this data can be utilized to identify inefficiencies, optimize processes, and make well-informed decisions.
